Public Art Fund is delighted to announce the election of Elizabeth Fearon Pepperman as Chair of its Board of Directors. Pepperman has been a member of the Board since 2014, chairing the Program Committee and serving on the Executive and External Affairs Committees.

Fearon is a native New Yorker and a passionate supporter of the arts who has served in leadership positions on non-profit boards for more than a decade, including as President Emerita and past Board Chair of the Children’s Museum of the Arts. She is an Arts Grants Panelist for the Washington Square Park Conservancy, as well as a member of the Friends of the Highline Council and the Parrish Art Museum Family Council. A graduate of Fordham Law School, she works as a Volunteer Lawyer for the Access to Justice program in Brooklyn Family Court and as Advisor to MomsforMomsNYC.

Pepperman succeeds Jill Kraus, who as Public Art Fund’s first Board Chair served since 2011, a period of strategic growth during which Public Art Fund significantly expanded its programming, staff, budget, and impact.

“At this pivotal moment, we are thrilled to welcome Elizabeth as Public Art Fund’s new Board Chair,” said Susan K. Freedman, Public Art Fund President. “As we reconnect with each other in public space, public art plays an ever more essential role—in shaping the face of our city, sparking our imaginations, and creating transformative collective experiences with art. Elizabeth’s years as a leader advocating for access to great art—as well as her support of artists—is an asset as our exhibitions and programs continue to be open and free for all, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I add my enormous thanks to Jill for her remarkable dedication to the Public Art Fund, which has flourished under her leadership.”

“Since our founding in 1977 by Doris C. Freedman, Public Art Fund has benefited from visionary leadership,” said Nicholas Baume, Public Art Fund Director & Chief Curator. “Elizabeth joins those ranks as a gifted and experienced leader, committed advocate, and enthusiastic champion. The role of public art in our communities has never been more vital. Elizabeth’s vision for Public Art Fund emerges from a deep appreciation of our mission: to present compelling, timely, and impactful exhibitions across New York City’s five boroughs and beyond; to work with artists of diverse backgrounds to support their practices and grow the audiences for their work; and to create for all of us meaningful and accessible experiences with extraordinary works of art.”
