Collector's Cache:
Charles Ziegler

My name is Charles Ziegler. I live in Summit Hill, PA. Born in Philadelphia, PA in May of 1958.

I am a former truck driver for the Post Office. I was hurt on the job about a month after 9-11.

Collecting art started with a prayer to God when my Mother had cancer. I was worried about her, and all the doctors said that "once she had the operation, she would be fine."
I still worried, and I said a prayer to God asking for help to take my mind off of all the worrying I was doing.
Within a few days I started to get bombarded with the words "Jackson Pollock," repeatedly.
Soon after that I bought my first Jackson Pollock painting.
I prefer art that looks good and tells a story.

And that's how it started. Believe it or not... And by the way. My Mom is just fine. Thank you!

This is Jackson Pollock's "Love & War"
Made in 1943. It 44" X 46". He, Pollock HATED what Hitler & the Nazis were doing in Europe. Knowing full well what Hitler was doing to the Jews, because his girlfriend Lee Krasner was Jewish. You can see a German iron cross in the bottom left hand side with a thumb hold. This painting is as POWERFUL today, as it was then... Sold by Peggy Guggenheim herself. Peggy wrote the name of the first owner on the back herself. I am the 3rd owner.

This is "ETERNAL" by Willem de Kooning. Made in 1965. 50" X 60". When he made it, he was pissed at his wife Elaine de Kooning. He states that in his painting. But the thing that got me was what he yelled at her, And said it as an adult. The day he himself became a man... I am the second owner of this painting. It sat on a gentleman's living room wall by Boston for almost 50 years before I bought it...

This painting that I own is by Willem de Kooning. Call "Reflection of Desire". It's 31" X 47" made in 1951. Here de Kooning is falling love with Lee Krasner, Jackson Pollock's wife. And he wants her "BAD"! He just had to wait until Pollock died in 1956...

This is a Jackson Pollock painting that I own that was made in 1943. This painting was part of the first paintings he made and sold in 1943 under the new contract he had with Peggy Guggenheim. I don't know the real name, But I call it "The Maître D" I just think he went out to dinner and saw this guy, and painted him. It's 32" X 25".

In this Jackson Pollock painting called "Home". it's 24" X 20". It was made in 1945 When Jackson Pollock & Lee Krasner bought there new home out on Long Island in 1945. Pollock gave Peggy Guggenheim $2,000 worth of art in exchange for the down payment to buy his new home. Initially there was no indoor plumbing or heating, but it was Heaven to them... back to the painting. In the front is bread for "May this home will always have food". Then the bottle of wine. As in, "May this home always have something to drink". In this painting Pollock is just so happy. Just like everyone else. When they buy there first home. He put Lee & himself, and a few others in this painting. No doubt, This painting is one of the happiest & most joyful day of both Krasner & Pollock's life...

This Jackson Pollock painting that I own is called "Lee Pollock". Pollock only made 2 portrait. Both of himself, before this painting. In 1946 he made this painting of his new wife Lee Krasner. He writes his & her name repeatedly thru out it. On the towel he writes Lee Pollock. Meaning that she is mine! 16" X 20". To me owning both this painting & Jackson Pollock's other painting "Home". Shows how happy he was in that time frame...

This is a painting I own by Jackson Pollock. It's called "Feelings of Desires", and it was made in 1945. One part of him is in Love with Lee Krasner, and the other. He fighting with himself about all the other women he could have in the future. In the end. Pollock made the right decision, but unfortunately he did cheat on Krasner a his popularity grew. but because I believe without lee Krasner. Pollock would have never became the legend he became without her. I believe she was the brains behind Pollock. Before and after his death. It's 30" X 40"

This is a Mark Rothko painting that I own. It was made in 1950. It's untitled. The size 52" X 40". It's a pretty large painting. I was looking at other Rothko paintings, and it looks like he paints something on the canvas. Then he painted over it. Why he did it, I don't know. So I hope you enjoy this painting. I just think it looks cool.

This Jean-Michel Basquiat painting that I own, called "Hands Up" Made in 1982 42" X 42" I bought it because it has "Charlie" written above the hands. Basquiat was a big fan of Charlie Parker. In this painting he talks about Parker, his drug uses, his girlfriend, Madonna, his friend Keith Haring, and I see some eyes that I believe are his fathers. But I want to explain this painting like I never did before. Everyone thinks he's putting his hands up because the Police are coming to arrest him, but that is wrong. Remember when you were young and were asked or you asked a child. How much do you love me or love something? And the responds was putting your hands up, and saying this much? That's what Basquiat is doing in this painting. He loved doing it all. That much!

This painting I own by Willem de Kooning is called "FUTURE HOPES". Made in 1956. The it's 41" X 43" There is a lot going on in the painting. de Kooning, I believe he was hoping for a son. He had a daughter Lisa. As a new Father he is learning babies cry, and scream Which he talks about in the painting, and a few other things. For some reason he was pissed off. That him in the upper right hand corner in red. de Kooning put that character in a few of his paintings. He developed that from the W in his first name Willem. But it's the character in the the left hand corner of this painting that caught my attention. He used that character in a couple of other paintings that I own. In the end. de Kooning was a good father to Lisa...
