06 02 26: THE ALLEGED NEW MUSEUM IS SHOPPING FOR SHOVELS This fantastical Las Vegas Museum of Art that they keep promising, might really be happening. A recent flurry of videos on Instagram proclaim this 'notion' will break ground in the Summer of 2027. We'll be there to see that! THINK COLLECTIVELY OR WE DIE In sports-happy Las Vegas, the fine arts and culture are on no one's mind except our own. The establishment sees no monetary value in pursuing the arts as an audience. History tells us, expect no support. The future will be defined by us, by the attraction of the working artist. In my research, I've met with many Las Vegas artists and I still haven't talked with enough. Every one I meet has a very distinct idea of what Las Vegas arts are today, their role in it and what the future may hold. To a person, they are very glad to be here and quite passionate about the landscape. I will venture a consensus of these opinions, in order of importance: Why should they? What defines Las Vegas art? What do we got? What's our ferris wheel, our attraction? The currency in Vegas has always been attraction. What's ours? Now is the time to think of our commonalities. Our disparities are well-evidenced, and has gotten you no where. What do we share? Going wider, what do the artists of Las Vegas collectively bring to the art world at large? What can we offer? What is on our Vegas buffet? Basic marketing: we need to answer these questions. Then we will have a message to share. The keyword is attraction. Thoughts? ~ Gordy Grundy A step in the right direction: Something happened very recently. A vast art show opened in LA, with over 460 artists. A big fun stunt with a 5 month run. In the show, there was a contingent of eight Las Vegas artists. Art Report Today is prepping an article to highlight those who made the initiative, stepped outside and represented Las Vegas. Plus we get to see their book covers. Matthew Couper's piece breaks a few dimensions. We want to encourage more of such behavior. Let's get Las Vegas artists in shows all over the country. ~ Gordy Grundy Couch In The Desert Presents: Krystal Ramirez "I Miss You Too" The Flag and Money Art Show is opening on Friday, June 5, 6pm-10pm at the Recycled Propaganda art gallery located at 1114 S Main Street, Suite 120 in the Las Vegas Arts District.
