LAS VEGAS IS THE WORK OF ART

Simply spoken, Las Vegas is the greatest American work of art.

There is no author or artist to name. Many hands have carried this creation over time. It is a people's work, which invites great discussion, interest and speculation.

We are, and have always been, fascinated with Las Vegas. At its most primitive, the western town inspired Bugsy Siegel to take great chances. In Vegas, Elvis and Howard Hughes built their heaven. The Wynns saddled up the town with feats of magic and design.

This South Nevada city has always been the subject of our curiosity. Every new evolution is international news.

I cannot regard Las Vegas as anything but an experiential, performative, work of art, a museum of many attractions. There really is no place like it.

Case in point, I'd call any man or woman a liar if they said they did not get a visceral thrill, to look up, gasp, and see the mammoth, half-built guitar of the new Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Vegas will again make a return to architecture, theme and the spectacular. The excitement is organic.

That is what only a work of art can do. To continually fascinate and intrigue.

Now in its fourth year, Duck Duck Shed is a four day conference in Las Vegas, a series of presentations, tours and walking events, produced by the Neon Museum. Like a diamond with many facets, the conference looks deep into architecture, design and the sociology of Las Vegas.
