RAINEY KNUDSON

In our issue this week, we have a special section on a Texas arts writer Rainey Knudson, who has been quietly building a series of essays on smart topics. Take a look at some of her works.

There's nothing cloudy about Rainey.

ANOTHER WEEK IN THE ARTS

A collection of essays is like a box of chocolates. You do not know what you will get until you lift the lid. It makes publishing exciting.

We are assembling a book "Defining the Las Vegas Artist, 2025–2026," which we hope will attract some local media attention for this busy arts community.

An anthology is a selected collection of written works. You choose what candies go into the box. It's as pretty and as tasty as you can make it.

On the other hand, a call to action, for blind submissions, can produce a radical mix. It can be as absurd as pairing a sturdy dark chocolate nut caramel next to a disconcerting pastel pink raspberry cream. You just hope you get lucky.

I am very relieved to state that the collection, of 32 essays, "Defining the Las Vegas Artist, 2025–2026" is fantastic. You never really know what you have until the collection is assembled. By the Luck of Fortuna, this book is good, smart and very much alive. It makes me as happy as a ten pound box of See's Dark Chocolate Nuts and Chews.

The 32 authors have all had a relationship with Las Vegas. Many are natives. All are accomplished working artists and creatives.

Surprisingly, there are zero artists from the performance world. Not one showgirl. Invitations were extended to dance, theatre, ceramics, costumers and even opera.

"Defining the Las Vegas Artist, 2025–2026" is a line in the sand, a statement of fact, in a town best known for athletic sporting events and sales conventions.

This collection of artists will be part of the Las Vegas permanent record. The thoughts of these artists will be available to all as a free digital book and as a very inexpensive printed softcover available at Amazon.

To complete the objective, we want to place Las Vegas artists on local media, where they are rarely seen or heard. Four artists on a morning show. Three more on a podcast or radio interview. Half a dozen makes for a compelling magazine overview.

We are looking to the future. All profits will be donated to the upcoming Las Vegas Museum of Art, soon to break ground.

As the world burns, art is where we make it.
