JERRY GOGOSIAN (2018-2026)

The artist Hilde Lynn Helphenstein has shed her mortal coil, and so goes her meme creation Jerry Gogosian. She is deserving of the word 'artist' before her name, the attribute and respect she wanted so badly in life.

In this week's issue of Sunday Lounge!, we feature a section for breaking news of this international story.

Hilde's new chapter, her life after death, is just starting.

The investigation of her demise will be reported and dissected into juicy bites. If murder, madness and mayhem are not discovered, we will just have to shrug it off as another life lost in the jungle of the Arts.

I believe if one could script one's death, Jerry Gogosian would have plotted a byzantine and unsolvable rubric, with a lot of glamour, to tease and amuse us for another decade. Likely not. Death never schedules in advance.

Headlines are not atrocious. Yet, "Found Dead in São Paulo" is a glam slam. Cops say "suspicious death." That caught my eye. Ya did good Hilde.

She was the bee's knees. An ardent supporter, Art Report Today has been featuring her work since we first began publishing in 2019. Her wit was genuine and clever. She had the wiles and wink of a pin-up girl. A troubled Hitchcock blonde, like Marnie.

An informed colleague just summed up her life as a 'predictable mess.' Tight two word epitaph.

Yeah. But in a fun, Edie Sedgwick way. But, without the money. Before the Art Derangement Syndrome took hold, Hilde had a vivacious spark and a natural sly smile.

We will continue to cover the story as it warrants. As Hilde would have wanted.

[Editor's Note: As of this deadline, several days after the announcement, the international coverage is spectacular. From ArtReview to TMZ, Hilde has the world's attention.

To date, as the story reveals, it appears that Hilde had a classic Hollywood ending. A glamorous hotel with all the trimmings and the usual detritus of pills and booze. The classic Art ending however rarely has such luxurious production values.]

WE'RE ROOTING FOR YOU, ART DADDY

Time for a hearty shoutout to The Art Daddy. She had done some excellent and hilarious analysis of the now departed Hilde Lynn Helphenstein. I guess now, The Art Daddy will be grabbing a broom and sweeping out any distasteful discourse. The dead do have an etiquette. Click Here.

The Art Daddy is a humor columnist with an insider history of the art world. She is a hot pants on the prowl for her dream Art Daddy, which she savagely stereotypes. She has a complicated relationship with them. And she is anonymous.

You can find The Art Daddy on Art Report Today. We have designated her work as "Our One Percent 'Splainer." She is a jet setter with her bags packed and ready to go.

Here is another example where hard work is sometimes rewarded. The Art Daddy's Substack is flourishing, a rarity in modern publishing. She was recently dealt a good hand of press attention. Her numbers are growing so well now that she is able to charge the price of a cigarette for a subscription. Click Here.

It's rare to find folks in the fine arts with a hearty sense of humor. Hey Art Daddy, we're rooting for you!
