Comrades, An amazing thing has happened. Discovering the Holy Grail or the Binion Hoard type of deal. But in a fine art way. And in Las Vegas. It happened here. This newly defined diaspora is wide and foundational, but we heard it here first. I thought one of our Las Vegas artists might be a genius, but now I am certain of it. In this interview, he lays out a whole new movement. Click Here to Read the Interview. Please forward this to Las Vegas folk. It will be important.
Following is my latest column in our Sunday Lounge! Magazine, It gets into the enormity of it all. This is a Vegas story. ~ Gordy Grundy SUBLIME AND THE ENORMITY OF IT ALL Just recently, I had an incredible art moment, a once in a lifetime experience. For context, imagine yourself in Paris, in Montmartre, in the year 1916, in a boite, with a snootful of absinthe. The laughing people at the tightly packed table next to you are far more interesting than your date. You overhear something at the next table, absolutely fascinating. You stand up too quickly and knock the can-can dancer off your lap and onto the sawdust covered floor. Leaning into the group of colorful characters, you ask, "Pardonnez-moi. What is this surrealism you speak of?" Yes, I had that significant of a moment. I knew its future. I saw the value and impact. All the good it can do. I knew this was the start, the coalition of something special. Except mine happened in English, in a Las Vegas poolside cabana in a fierce desert wind, which no waiter dared to brave. Alcohol was not at hand. Of clear mind and hopeful demeanor, I saw an art work on a friend's phone that blew my mind. I stammered, 'What is that?" The answer further blew my mind. (I'm from SoCal. We have Seven Stages of Mindblowing.) And, sadly, I cannot share the scoop yet. But I really want to. Very soon, I will present an artist, new to me and you, with an interview that will remind us all of the joy of living and of art. F-U-N. Three little letters that convey the enormity of it all. |
