BACK TO THE KLASSICS

I know it looks promising. This weekend a new film version of "Wuthering Heights" will open. Do not be mistaken, the male youth who stand in line to buy a ticket, are not part of a new literary movement celebrating the classics. I believe they are there for the boobs.

The director Emerald Fennell has sexed up the old page-turner and cast two of the hottest stars in Hollywood with a hard R rating. Most press titillates us with words like "debauched," "carnal," "erotic," "steamy," "raw," "obscene," and "earthy." Every raincoat flasher will buy a ticket.

And to end this idea of a literary revival, stats suggest most kids under the age of 35 can't read anyway. This new blockbuster is all about the boobs.

ANTI-SKEEVY

As a publication, I am horrified by the behavior of the national media. I am very sorry that we the public are being beaten black and blue, day in and out, with the endless Epstein coverage. Art Report Today would never do that to you.

It is grotesque and pointless. He's no Hannibal Lecter. He's not that interesting. The pimp was no criminal mastermind. He used sex, in its most abject currency, to snag high worth clients and collect the doozy commissions. As a skeevy actor, his big brother roles forged alliances to manipulate long lost adolescent dreams. Easy pickin's. It's lonely and needy at the top.

We learned a long time ago, there is nothing to admire here, nothing to learn. Let's keep moving.

Now, who can we root for?

ART MERCH

Artists gotta eat. We like to think terms such as 'expanding the product line' do not belong in the sanctity of the artist studio. But they do.

The worried spouse of an artist may have much to say about 'keeping the lights on.' Artists with a large gallery feel the pressure for 'more product,' 'more styles that sell well,' and 'what else you got?' There is always an appetite for more.

In today's issue, we offer a section that quickly covers the history of art merch, collectibles, limited editions and objets. From Duchamp to today's CJ Hendry.

MANUFACTURED

Let's gather around kids. Stay warm next to the fireplace. Get comfy for another Old Timey Tale.

In the beginning, the digital art market was without form and void. And thus, the NFT was created. Our Tech Overlords declared the animated digital image a game changer and the world reeled.

Like the art world Second Coming of Christ, the humble NFT promised a new and meaningful marketplace of untold riches.

Golly, now that you've asked, I can't remember why NFTs were so wonderful. And no one, from the world's brightest minds, in tech and art, no one ever figured out what to do with them.

Today's headlines announce the demise of the NFT leading platform Nifty Gateway, a once-hopeful cash grab founded by the Winklevoss Twins. Their 2019 expedition into the brave new art world has ended up like the lost pilgrims of Roanoke.

Some of you who wear smarty pants, may be drawing analogies between AI and the NFT. Yah. It's still lipstick on a pig.

Rather than digital arts, I hope the creative community will focus on something practical, with a general appeal, like baked goods.

Thank Gaia, that's over. A eulogy to Click On: "Pioneering NFT Platform Nifty Gateway Shutters Amid Market Collapse; Analysis suggests a whopping 95 percent of NFTs are now worthless"
