THE LONG SHADOW OF ART CRITIC DAVE HICKEY
A fantastic collection of 32 essays by Las Vegas artists has a thread throughout many of the works. The bad boy from Texas Dave Hickey was an English professor at UNLV. His impact on the students and his academic-minded Art Department was Titanic. I suspect we shall be hearing more of these quiet tales as time goes by.
One of the authors had a very sweet and close relationship with Hickey, showing his honeyed inside. Others had fresh new outlooks on their work, and took on greater challenges. Some called the celebrity art critic a monster. He was an influence, a coconspirator and an antagonist.
